Murphree, Jerry Donald Born in Alabama, Murph crossed the final goal line on 22 August, 2012. In life, he broke Alabama football rushing records and was MVP at Banks High School in Birmingham, 1975. He and his brother Tank were team-mates on the Banks High team that holds the Alabama record for consecutive wins at 30 games, with 2 state championships. He turned down an offer from Paul 'Bear' Bryant at the Univ. of Alabama and landed at Louisiana State University (LSU) where he earned three letters in football under coach Charles McClendon. Named offensive MVP in his last collegiate game at the Tangerine Bowl in 1980. He graduated from LSU in 1980 and then signed with the New Orleans Saints as a running back/receiver. His professional football career was short lived, as the effects of a progressive heart disease surfaced. He graduated from Cumberland Law School, and practiced in Gulf Shores, Al while raising his children Zach, Gabby and Jacob. A stroke, the result of his heart problems, disabled him at age 40, and although not able to speak effectively he never lost his sense of humor and enthusiasm for life. He enjoyed watching LSU football games at Stan's Blue Note where his LSU jersey hangs. He was looking forward to this year's season while living with his Dad and stepmom in Texas awaiting a heart transplant through Baylor Heart Hospital. He was an inspiration in his death as much as he was in his life. He was cool. Preceded in death by his mother, Janice; survived by his children, Zachary, Gabrielle & Jacob; father, Perry Eugene Murphree, Sr.; step-mother, Jean; niece, Heather; brothers, Perry "Tank" (Theresa), Terry & Gary, and best friend Tommy Frizzell. In lieu of gifts please donate organs and encourage organ donation when possible.
